Osmangazi Bridge, the largest section of the Gebze–Orhangazi–İzmir Highway Project, which will reduce the 9-hour travel time between Istanbul and İzmir to 3.5 hours and for which OYAK Concrete acted as concrete supplier, has been officially opened following an opening ceremony attended by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on June 30.
Following the foundation ceremony held on the Yalova Altınova Hersek site on March 30, 2013, the bridge was completed in approximately 39 months. It features a 252-m high tower, 35.93-m wide deck, 1550-m long center span, and is a total length of 2682 m.
DURABET®PLUS and DURABET®SELF, high-performance special concretes designed by OYAK CONCRETE, were used in the tower foundations of the suspension bridge, the anchorage structures, and the approach viaducts.
8,000 workers were employed to construct this bridge, which is the fourth widest suspension bridge in the world when it comes to center span. With the design of an arch for Hersek Lagoon, which plays host to an array of different bird species, Osmangazi Bridge also reveals the importance now being given to nature and biological diversity.
